Think of the Universe - Marcus Aurelius

Image
Think of the universe as one living creature, made of one substance, one soul: how all is absorbed into this one consciousness; how a single impulse governs all its actions; how all things collaborate in all that happens, the very web and mesh of it all.

Effortlessly - Mechthild of Magdeburg

Image
Effortlessly, Love flows from God into man, Like a bird Who rivers the air Without moving her wings. Thus we move in His world One in body and soul,  Though outwardly separate in form. As the Source strikes the note, Humanity sings-- The Holy Spirit is our harpist, And all strings  Which are touched in Love Must sound.

Psalm 106 - Nan Merrill Interpreter

Awaken us to the Oneness of all things, to the beauty and truth of Unity. May we become aware of the interdependence of all living things, and come to know You and everything, and all things in You. For as we return to Your Presence within us, we know not separation,  and Joy becomes our dwelling place.

Late Prayer - Jane Hirshfield

Tenderness does not choose its own uses. It goes out to everything equally, circling rabbit and hawk. Look: in the iron bucket a single nail, a single ruby- all the heavens and hells. They rattle in the heart and make one sound.

All Things - Francis Thompson

All things by immortal power, near and far, hiddenly to each other linked are, that thou canst not stir a flower without troubling of a star.

We Are Fields Before Each Other - St. Thomas Aquinas

Image
How is it they live for eons in such harmony -  the billions of stars - when most men can barely go a minute without declaring war in their mind against someone they know. There are wars where no one marches with a flag, though that does not keep casualties  from mounting. Our hearts irrigate this earth. We are fields before each other. How can we live in harmony? First we need to know we are all madly in love with the same God.

One Heart - Li- Young-Lee

Look at the birds. Even flying is born out of nothing. The first sky is inside you, friend, open at either end of day. The work of wings was always freedom, fastening one heart to every falling thing.
