 For nothing is fixed. forever, forever, forever, it is not fixed; the earth is always shifting, the light is always changing, the sea does not cease to grind down rock. Generations do not cease to be born,  and we are responsible to them because we are the only witnesses they have. The sea rises, the light fails, leaves cling to each other, and children cling to us. The moment we cease to hold each other, the moment we break faith with one another, the sea engulfs us and the light goes out.

Here is all the politics we need: My blue sky pervades each atom of your body. Your blue sky pervades each atom of my body. Where you are, I am. Where I am, you are. All our troubles lie in the veil of a single thought: "I am not you." Love is letting this thought dissolve.

Behold this empty space between your certainty and mine, this area of sunlight free of claim and counterclaim, this bright meadow where no one has shouted, bullied, or begged, where butterflies are sovereign, where birdsong is our legislation, where you walk and I could walk out into the open, look around, and speak - first of children, then of our dreams, and only then of the work we will do together,

 Have compassion for everyone you meet even if they don't want it. What seems conceit, bad manners or cynicism is always a sign of things no ears have heard, no eyes have seen. You do not know what wars are going on down there where the spirit meets the bone.

 Leafless aspens groom the iced breeze, while below a brook descends the mountain with its musical story, remembering the serenity of sky, and lightening's clear passion. Water knows what is far will be near. Water says choose that which closes distance, choose touch. When snow falls, and a green mystery is carried by all that moves, choose love.
